Law of Schools, Students and Teachers in a Nutshell (Nutshell Series)
Published in Paperback by West Wadsworth (July, 2003)
Authors: Kern Alexander and M. David Alexander
Average review score:

A must for every teacher.
This book covers school law in a clear and concise manner. The language is easily understood and should be on the desk of every teacher who is concerned about the welfare of children.

This is a very good book about school law.
I like this book very much because as the book says, it summarizes school law in a nutshell. I have found it very helpful to refer to while taking a school law class. It is any easy read compared to my school law text, and hits the main points of court decisions.

Positive Behavioral Support: Including People With Difficult Behavior in the Community
Published in Paperback by Paul H Brookes Pub Co (January, 1996)
Authors: Lynn Kern Koegel, Robert L. Koegel, Glen, Ph.D. Dunlap, and Lynn Kern Smith
Average review score:

Excellent resource, thought-provoking
This is another in the series of books edited by the Koegel team and associates. As always, excellent information provided in an easily read style. As in all ABA, there are data-based decisions to make.

Comprehensive guide covering a wide variety of situations
The title of this book does not convey the breadth of topics covered relevant to children of many different ages, the complete description and explanation of a wide variety of behavioral interventions along with expected results. Also good list of other sources of scholarly articles. One slight critique would be that a greater use of footnotes might have made the text a bit more user friendly.

Supervising Physician says this is the one to have!
The SP I'm with told me this has an answer for almost all my questions. He refers to it frequently himself-- a very good reference!

A one stop shop for medical information.
You will not find a more complete and comprehensive medical resource. This book tackles every disease I can think of.

The Regions of Spain
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press (November, 1995)
Author: Robert W. Kern
Average review score:

Super Reference Work
This book has a dictionary-like format, with regions listed alphabetically, and a standardized sequence of topics for each region. It is full of facts and the kind of fascinating detail that gets passed over in general works about Spain. The author treats the history, geography, literature, music, art, even a recipe for each region. Lots of fun to browse or to prepare for a trip! However, not a sit-down-and-read-cover-to-cover type of book.

EXCELLENT CONTENT--FORMAT COULD BE IMPROVED
I found the book to be an excellent source for the history, geography, culture, literature, art, sites, and even dress, cuisine, and dance characteristic of each of Spain's 50 provinces. However, there are several errors in the statistical data given (POPULATION, AREA,ECONOMY), --for example, confusing Huesca and Huelva. I also would have wished to have better maps, more photos and possibly some color in the illustrations. The author also groups the regions and provinces alphabetically which might have been better if done by population or geographically. Overall, however, excellent and a wonderful reference for anyone interested in Spain. I only wish other nations had such a concise yet complete guide by region and political unit as has been done by the author for Spain.

Walking Thunder: Diné Medicine Woman
Published in Paperback by Leete's Island Books (April, 2001)
Authors: Bradford, Phd Keeney and Kern L. Nickerson
Average review score:

Walking Thunder
This amazing woman has shown much of what is denied to most outsiders. Her information helped me understand many traditions that I have been wondering about.
She explains the whys of traditions. I found myself reading her words aloud with a Navajo accent as I became engrosed in this book. Her pictoral history of the last century of Dine gives us a look into the real lives of the people.

A Dine woman healer living her walk....
Walking Thunder immerses herself as a healer and delights in being human. Her rich heritage, generous heart and possessing a full understanding that she is the vessel the holy ones work through, makes this an "enriching read." Written wisdom is not the same as shared lived wisdom. She shares many lessons from her teachers and her abundant respect of Mother Earth is humbling. Less you think all medicine people are humorless, her laughter and pranks can be heard throughout the book. Walking Thunder is respectful of her culture, elders, family, friends, and Mother Earth. You can experience this from her voice on the compact disc that is included with the book. For those who want to further their appreciation of medicine work, while deepening their understanding of The People, this is the book for you.

Encounters
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing (August, 1999)
Authors: Roshni Rustomji-Kerns, Rajini Srikanth, Leny Mendoza Strobel, and Rajini Strikanth
Average review score:

A MUST READ for anyone interested in *being in the world*!
This book depicts why "multiculturalism" is neither a fad or a bad word. Multiculturalism also results in accepting the multi-faceted wonders that Life can be. The editors' conception of this book is ahead of its time and I offer my gratitude for their sophisticated approach. Aptly, the complicated theme of "Asian in the Americas" is manifested in a multi-layered approach vis a vis genre: nonfiction, art, poetry, fiction. Dwight Okita's poem "Notes For A Poem on Being Asian American" has been long-heralded; but it is simply one of the many marvels in this book. Highly recommend!
